Be single and survive the Valentine’s Day blitz

Whether you’re single by choice or circumstance, you need nerves of steel just to get yourself through Valentine’s Day in Sydney, or any other cosmopolitan city for that matter. And it really doesn’t help when the city plays Cupid and conspires with the die-hard romantics to rub this day of love in your face.

In the run up to Valentine’s Day, you’re simply bombarded with marketing gimmicks, romantic comedies, teddy bears, heart-shaped trinkets and saccharine sweet advertisements and events. And, when you just can’t see beyond the blur of red and pink, you end up feeling inadequate and incomplete!

But take heart, looks can be deceptive. Many couples play along because the pressure to celebrate with someone special and put your love on display is so great that they feel if they don’t succumb to the occasion, their relationship has no merit!

There is nothing wrong in being blissfully single, but you definitely have to brace yourself to resist commercial and peer pressure to couple up. Valentine’s Day just celebrates love; the romantics of course, have skewed vision on that day, but if you’re not in a ‘magical’ relationship, spend the day loving yourself!

If you want to play hooky from work, do it. Pamper yourself with a lavish spa day, order in and watch a movie, binge on your favourite food, take a nice long bath or anything else your single heart desires… after all, you have no one else to please but yourself.

Here’s another thought… Valentine’s Day celebrates the love between friends as much as it does romantic love. So, if you’re single and don’t want to spend the day alone you must celebrate the day with like-minded friends. There is so much you can do in Sydney, all you have to do is put yourself out there and you can successfully ride the waves of pink and red!

And, when the sun goes down you and your friends could head down to the harbour, go pub hopping, dancing and maybe even go on a SydneyHarbour Valentine’s Day dinner cruise and show all those couples out there what fun it is to be single, spirited and free. While the lovers struggle to earn brownie points, you along with friends can chill and lounge around the Sydney harbourdinner cruise. Damn sure, many souls are gonna crave to be you :).
